Netflix announced on Monday (22) a new feature for its streaming platform on mobile devices. Called “Downloads for You”, it automatically downloads recommended movies and series based on the user’s tastes. The tool is already available on Android devices and, according to the company, will soon enter tests on iOS.
“Downloads for You” arrives three years after the launch of Smart Downloads, which automatically downloads the following episodes of the series that the user is watching. This time, the new feature allows the subscriber to discover a new catalog title quickly and easily, with or without an internet connection.
Based on the subscriber’s playback history, the feature automatically downloads recommended movies and series to the mobile device. This way, the user does not need to have access to the internet to watch new content. For Netflix, in addition to presenting its releases to people, the tool also encourages the consumption of these productions during traffic or on the street, after all it is not necessary to be online to play.
Launched after tests carried out last year in selected countries, including Brazil, the function now reaches all audiences and is easily activated. Check out:

Accessing the “Downloads” tab and then “Smart Downloads”, the user will come across the page below. There, it is possible to activate the “Downloads for You” function and determine the amount of space that Netflix can use to download content based on the user’s personal taste. The volume of content downloaded on the device can be controlled and varies from 1 GB to 5 GB. In fact, the download is only done when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

When choosing the amount of space dedicated to discovering content, the application will show a confirmation screen that will bring an average time of series and movies that can be downloaded using that storage. In addition, it is also possible to check how much memory is left on the smartphone when activating the function.

“We are always looking for ways to improve the mobile experience for subscribers and it is great to be able to facilitate the discovery of new series and movies,” explains a Netflix spokesman in a note.
According to the company, the function is now available on Android devices. There is no set date for the feature to arrive on iPhones and iPads.
