Apple TV + has put together a cast with strong names for humor for their next series, The Shrink Next Door. According to information from Deadline, Kathryn Hahn has already signed the contract to lead the cast of the series, which will also feature Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd.
The Shrink Next Door will be directed by Michael Showalter, Sick of Love, and with a script signed by Georgia Pritchett, from the series Vice. Inspired by real events and adapted from a homonymous podcast, The Shrink Next Door accompanies the bizarre relationship that existed between the psychiatrist and Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, played by Rudd, and his patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz, played by Ferrell.
Deadline went even further in the series description:
Throughout their relationship, the ever-charming Ike slowly inserts himself into Marty’s life, even moving into his home in Hamptons and persuading Marty to appoint him president of the family business. The series explores how an apparently normal doctor-patient dynamic transforms into an exploratory relationship full of, at the very least, manipulation, opportunistic seizure of power and dysfunction.
In the midst of all this, Hahn will play Marty’s younger sister, who will probably be a character who does the analysis of the analysis, with many possibilities for deep and comical discussions about what is “normal” and what is not. Unfortunately, we can only speculate, since, apart from the central cast, very little information has been revealed about the series, which does not yet have a definite release date.
